My furnace has not worked in 2 weeks. I have been using a very economical space heater. While it provides great warmth where I am, it does not warm all the areas I need heated.
I am not cold and really have not been. A little chilled sometimes, but not cold and the chill is temporarily.
Do not know the problem, think it may be electrical, then someone said it could be a bad heating element causing the breaker to trip. I guess I need to bite the bullet and call a repairman.
It seems that I always have more bills coming in than I have money to pay them.
I would still have to scrimp, but it sure would be nice if the renter caught up the back rent and started paying it on time. I wonder if he does other obligations like he does me. A debt is a debt, no matter whom you owe or why.
Both property insurances and car insurance is due–I am ever so thankful I can make payments. Still it is the same amount of debt but paying per month is the only way I can take care of over $1700. worth of insurance that hopefully I will never need.
I need 3 major repairs done to my car, can’t afford all of them at once so—-. I need a serpentine belt, complete brake job, and front and rear struts. I know the brakes need to be in good maintenance at all times, the belt is cracked and could break at any time and the struts have needed to be replaced for at least a year and a half if not longer.
It seems the struts have been replaced within the past 10 years, how long do they last, anyway?
I spent a bigger part of this afternoon preparing my medical ledger sheets. What do I mean by this? Simple, I have quite a few medical bills that I am trying to get paid off and it is easier for me to keep the charges, insurance payments, the amount I pay, and the balance on ledger sheets. This is a yearly project I began and have done each year since my thyroid surgery, got a slow start this year.
Each medical facility has their own sheet and tabbed section in a 2″ binder. I also keep each statement and the bill I get with each office visit in the correct section. These ledger sheets tell me at a glance how much I owe each facility and also makes doing the taxes much easier.
My last post tells of a leak of fluid from my car. That was then and this is now. I do have major problems at least they are major to me. My power steering is messed up involving the rack and pinion, the coolant is leaking from the reservoir, and I have a belt that is cracking. So far estimates are between 14 and 19 hundred dollars. I must get this fixed as it is my only transportation, but I have no ready cash laying around begging to be spent on my car.
I guess the next thing will be something major in the house other than the floors needing to be replaced. I hear a knocking in the wall behind the stove that is so loud, it wakes me. I thought at first it may be the furnace or the refridge. I have flipped the breaker on both of these units when the knocking is happening and it does not stop. Thankful that is not the furnace or I would be afraid of fire.
I don’t know what I am going to do, I just hope I make the right decision.
I am trying very hard to cut corners and reduce my expenses. I hope this continues to work for me, filling space in the toilet tank with something other than water. I bent the float rod in one plus added drink bottles filled with water. In the bathroom that has the smaller tank I just put drink bottles in it.
I hope this continues to be the trend — that my water usage will be $1.00 per day (or less) as it was last month compared to the $1.20 per day the month before.
As far as material items, my Christmas will be very poor. I am scrimping and trying to figure out how I can get the grandchildren a very small worthwhile gift. If I do find a way to buy them a gift, I want it to last longer than the time it will take them to open it.
During the very early summer, I did buy an item for each of them, less than $5., but it is an item of clothing (which we all need). I am hoping to buy them something that they say they want. Only time will tell.
All but the 2 youngest are very understanding and can give me a low priced item that they would like to have. Low price being around $10. Three of them have already said they understand that I may not get them anything.
Nothing, I hope! About a week ago, I occasionally heard a knocking in the area of the furnace and fridge. ‘Oh my, after 30 years, I bet the furnace is going to break. No, thank the Lord, not the furnace.’ I determined this by turning the furnace off during the middle of the night and still heard the knocking.
It is the fridge that is only about 5 years old. I do not have a clue as to why it is making this noise. I thought maybe it was the ice maker, so I turned it off, did not help. I am now wondering if it could be the filter. The knocking noise is getting louder and longer, it even wakes me up. I guess I will have to call for a repair. My husband, before he left, took care of this type stuff, so I am clueless, but with time will learn.
My car is making a slight grinding sound when I turn the wheel. Hopefully, all it needs is some power steering fluid.
I really really hope these repairs will not take much money to take care of them. If they do, I will be up the creek without a paddle or boat.
I completely forgot about the house insurance until yesterday morning. It expired on September 28th. I called my new agent and she emailed me shortly thereafter saying that the firm that I was wanting to use had put a freeze on all new policies of any material items until more favorable weather. Not knowing what may happen and how severe it would be, I knew that I had to have some type of coverage.
I called the agent that Bill and I had used and she gave me a number to call so that I could give them check information to be processed electronically. Well, there was glitch in doing that so I had to go into town and take her the check. She then faxed them a copy and will mail the check to them and I now have house insurance. For now all is well with that problem.
It seems that everywhere I turn, I am having to pay out money that I do not have and that Bill always took care of and paid. I am expecting a bill any day in the amount of $493. This I will pay lump sum in order to save $50. Much of this and my CD and IRA will be down to nothing. Then I will have no emergency fund for anything!
I can sew, not very well, but I could if I were to start with simple items and learn by doing. Before I can start with simple items, I need to take my machine to the shop. The material will not feed and just gets all rumpled and the thread gets in a mess.
I have a sister friend that sews quite well, so she is making valances for me to put in the bedroom. (I could do this if my machine was working properly) I brought 2 of them home with me last night and hung them. Today she came over and we decided they needed to be about 1 1/2 inches shorter, so back to her house they did go.
She will take them up from the bottom, putting more weight on the very bottom of them, making them hang better.
I will be so glad when the bedroom is finished. I sure wish I could have new carpet installed. That is so far from reality that it is a nightmare, not a dream. Maybe, in a couple more weeks, it will be like I want it or as I want it with what I feel like I can afford.
