VICTIM

My cousin, Gail Duncan Singletary, was a victim of the horrible, most awful disease known as CANCER.  Some survive, and for this I am most thankful.  For those that must suffer until death, words cannot express the pain they suffer.  Families suffer also, but I really do not think there can be a comparison as the pain is different.  Gail was married to Lennon Singletary from Elizabethtown.  Gail lost her courageous fight in May of 1991.

Gail always had a smile in good health and bad.  She was always very neat.  Even after working on the farm all day, she was still neat.  A very pretty person inside and out!!!

I know many that have won, so keep up the fight, stay positive, and stay strong.

YOUNGSTER SITTING

I am keeping three of the grandchildren until I don’t know when, only til sometime tonight or tomorrow.  Do not know if more will come over later.

Guess it is for a good reason:  someone drove several hours just to see her.  Being a good mom, I will give up a part of my time for her.  I think she deserves it.

I am hoping she has a really good day!!! and possibly evening.

FRIDAY THANKSGIVING

Most all people will celebrate Thanksgiving on Thursday with family and friends.  I do not, as of  now, have any plans for Thanksgiving day and that is ok.  However, I do have plans for the Friday after and Saturday night after.

Friday I am preparing a meal for my daughter and her children.  Her small request was just chicken ‘n’ pastry and then she added greens and then I added fried chicken.  The menu has really grown and to my shock, I am looking forward to preparing the food.  She offered to help me, but I told her I would do it.  I know that I will be preparing for at least 8 people, 4 adult eaters and 4 children.

The menu:  chicken ‘n’ pastry

cornbread dressing (not a mix-made from scratch)

turnips w/mustard and turnip roots

fried chicken (wing pieces)

rice w/gravy

cranberry sauce (if I do not forget it)

watergate salad

If anyone wants dessert, they will just have to eat more of the main course unless I change my mind.  Coconut pie is sounding pretty good.

This will not be bad for me to prepare alone.  I can prepare the stewed chicken, dressing, turnips, and watergate salad ahead.  Turnips and salad probably on Tuesday or Wednesday, stew the chicken and bake the cornbread and mix the dressing on Thursday.  That will make the finishing up on Friday easy-peasy.

Would you like to join us–give me a call if you would, want to have enuff food for all.

Plans for Saturday–meeting new people and an oyster roast.

RENEWED FAMILY & FRIENDSHIPS

Since my husband of almost 34 years left me July 2010, I have renewed the relationship I had with the sister and brother of my first husband.

I divorced him and so often when this happens, all relationships are forgotten.  I am so glad that Rowena and John accept me for me and treat me just as they did so many years ago.  The nieces and nephews do, also.

Anytime my daughter goes for a visit, I am invited and each time Rowena says “I am so glad you could come”.  John is John and lots of fun.

I am ever so thankful that they still love me.  Good hearted people without selfish motives are hard to find.  This is an attribute of all the family I saw this week-end.  I am looking forward to the next visit and I have been home less than 2 hours.

FISHING

I have been fishing numerous times since July 4.  Most times not even getting a bite.  Twice I have caught several, but never any large enough to keep.

Hopefully that will change today.  My daughter, mutual friend, and myself hopefully will be catching spots.  That is the plan as of right now.  I would so like to catch enough that I could freeze a few.

But the question is:  Should I go fishing or be a sacrificing mom and keep the children so my daughter can really enjoy herself.

FUN with FRANNY

I have said that my cousin, Franny, is my partner in Fun and Travel.  She is widowed and has been about 10 years.

She is fun and likes to have good times.  We get along well together even tho she calls me ‘Weirdo’.

She lives about 11 miles from the pier at Surf City.  Needless to say, we spend a lot of our visiting time on the beach.  Yesterday, I did not use enough sunscreen and got a little too much sun.  Hopefully it will be ok.

She likes to crochet and so do I, so after Fun in the Sun, we will share more time with each other by stitching, drinking tea, and sometimes giving our opinions on certain patterns or helping advice on how to make certain stitches.

When we were young and up until the past year, we did not spend much time together as some cousins do, so now we are trying to make up for lost time.

Franny is not only my cousin but also my friend.

SUMMER FUN BEGAN

Previously mentioned was the enjoyment I had during Memorial Day weekend.  Well, the enjoyment and fun did not stop there.

Shortly after that weekend, my cousin and I went to my brother’s beach house and stayed 4 days.   It was very nice and having no schedule made it even better.  I took Bullett with me, he really likes to ride but does not care for the water.

On the way home, Cuz showed me where she always goes to the beach.  Once I walked down to the waterfront, I knew this was the beach for me.   I have been back there 3 times and plan to go as much as my schedule and gas funds will allow.  Of course, someone else will be driving some, so that will help with the gas funds.

I have also returned to the lake 2 times and more trips are being planned.  An extra of going to the lake is looking in the canal for gators and turtles.

Now, I need to do some housework because I never know when I will be hit with the “go fever”.!!

WEEK-END

I had a very nice Memorial Day week-end, thanks to those that have served in the Armed Forces in the past and now.  I have had and continue to have the privilege to go where I can  afford the transportation to get there.

This particular week-end, on Saturday and Monday, I took 4 of my grandchildren to the lake house of very good friends.  The children enjoyed the water and I enjoyed the fellowship of my friends.

This was a very good way to start my summer and I hope it continues to be filled with fun activities of one type or another.

I have tentative plans to go to my brother’s beach house next week, if the house and dog sitter work out.

LOCKED IN

I was locked in the camp-site at Lake Waccamaw Friday night.  Campsite  is suppose to be open 8AM-8PM.  I arrived at the gate about 7:50 and it was locked tight as a drum.  First, I called the local number, reached a recording, that was absolutely no help.  Second, I called the 800 #, I did get a person, but they were unable to help me, saying to call 911.

I did not want to call 911 even tho it was an emergency to me for me to get out of the campsite, but I did not think I was in any danger.  I could have gone back to where my daughter was camping and spent the night with them, but really, really did not want to do that.

I did call 911 and first off told them I did not have an emergency then proceeded to tell the lady my problem.  She connected me to the local hospital and they called the park (power) ranger, came back to my line and said he would be there shortly and he was.

I was ever so very glad to get to my friends’ house and they had left the light on for me, but their place is better than a Motel 6.

FRIENDS

I called my friends that have a house @Lake Waccamaw, right on the water, asking if I could spend the week-end there.  She replied, “of course you can, you can stay anytime you want and if you think someone else may be there, just call me.”

My daughter and her family were camping at the state park at the lake.  Her car is broken again, she bought the gas and I taxied them to their campsite.  I had to make 2 trips to get everyone there.  The second trip, I also took Bullett and his kennel.

Daughter and family enjoyed their week-end camping and I enjoyed time spent with my friends and their family.
