WAITRESS

I have been a waitress three different times during my working career.  Let me tell you, it is not as easy as it looks, but I did enjoy this job.  I guess because I am a people person.

Part of the duties I had was to vacuum some nights after closing, wrap the silverware, wipe down the tables and condiment bottles, putting what needed to be, in the refrigerator. Also to store any restaurant supplies that were delivered.  These duties were shared by all the waitresses.

Generally tips were good.  One owner went up on prices and reduced serving sizes at the same time, this had a bearing on tips until the folks had time to think about it and realized we were just the workers, not the rule makers.

WALK 8-22-11

Finally, I walked my practice path this morning.  It has been over 2 weeks since I walked the path at the Leland Park.  I have walked, but not like I should.  While at Emerald Isle, I measured a distance to walk.  Most days I walked but not as much as I should have.

The “Take the Lake” is less than 2 weeks away.  Will I be ready??? I may or may not be, but I am surely going to give it my best.  I know I must get out of first gear and move on to overdrive.

I have heard some say that they have not even walked any, but plan to participate.  They will probably do better than myself.  Time will tell!

FUN WEEK

After the fun week I have had, I do not need oxycodone percocet addiction detox.

You want details??   OK, no problem.   Monday– drove to Monroe, NC  (about 3 hours) and back, and stopped at 3 different places to window shop.   Tuesday — worked, made watergate salad for a bereaved family, went to Hampstead and had supper with a cousin.  Wednesday — went to the beach with same cousin, her son and DIL.   Thursday — went thrift store shopping with my daughter, granddaughter, and a friend of the granddaughter.  Those children found some great buys.   I got a brand new pair of sneakers for $3.59.  I also mowed most of my yard.   Friday — got a much needed haircut,  had supper again with my cousin.  Saturday –  went to the beach with cousin, her granddaughter and DIL.

I have been on the go a lot but have had a very good week.  Sure am glad my car averages 22 mpg and sometimes better.

WALK 8/5/11

I wanted to get an earlier start on my walk than I did yesterday, so I set the clock alarm.  Hard to believe this one, but I woke up before the alarm sounded and got up.  This gave me an hour earlier start than I had planned.  Weather today was overcast but very humid.

I feel that my walk today was very successful.  Thanks to Jeni Colon.   She is my niece and I contacted her by email last night for some training advice.  Jeni is serving in the US ARMY and does a lot of gym workouts and training other than what is required.

Jeni told me to not worry about speed just yet, to work on endurance and try today for the 3 mile walk that I did not achieve yesterday.

As I previously stated:  SUCCESS.  I walked and jogged (very little) the park trail for a total of 4.2 miles in 1 hour and 22 minutes.   The event I am training for is walk and/or run.

Tomorrow may be a different story!!  I wore the same shoes today that I wore yesterday but different type socks, I have a solid blister on my left big toe (did not even know it was there until I pulled off my shoes and socks) and an open blister on my right heel (knew about it very early on).   Will probably change shoes and sock type for tomorrow.

I am really hoping to be at 8 or more miles by the end of next week.

WALK 8/4/11

I went to the park this morning for my walk instead of using the treadmill.  I am thinking the treadmill will help condition me but since “Take the Lake” 15 mile walk is around the lake, I really need to walk outside.

I walked the trail 3 times equaling 1.8 miles in 35 minutes.  I started walking at 11:00.  I may have been able to walk farther if I had started earlier.  I need to temper my body to heat as well as endurance to walk the distance.

I am far behind in the training schedule for the walk.  I should be able to walk at least 3 miles briskly in an hour.  My goal is to accomplish this by the end of next week.  I would like to walk  3 1/2 – 3 3/4 miles in an hour, consistently.  Who knows, when I finish training, I may be able to do even better.

QUOTES

This is not about famous quotes but insurance quotes, especially rv insurance quotes.  My car insurance is about $500 per year, I cannot imagine what it would be on a RV.  If you have a RV, I am sure insurance is very expensive, but the vehicle allows so much enjoyment that the insurance is a small price for all the fun.

Sometimes I think it would be fun to have a RV, travel with Franny when and where we wanted.  Of course, we would have to determine the cost of travel, campsites, and food versus the cost of car travel, hotel, and food.   Just Dreaming!!!!!

WALK #2 8/3/11

Speed not as good this time, it took me 24:10 minutes to walk a mile.  I am very hot, turned the fan on but in such a hurry to start walking, I did not adjust it so that it would blow on me.  I need to get my priorities in order!!

Maybe, with consistency, I can improve my speed and endurance.  I will soon go to the walking trail at the park and see how I do there.  Walking around the trail 5 times equals walking 3 miles.

I know that I am really going to have to push myself to be ready for “Take the Lake”.

RETIREMENT GIFTS

A big question:  What retirement gift do you get a male, that has everything or can get anything they want.  One especially likes to give those deserving, retirement gifts, but sometimes the choosing is so very hard.  A personalized gift is always a good choice.

The perfect great retirment gifts for him are often items that we may never think they would like.  If the retiree plays golf, a gift certificate to a country club membership may be appreciated.  A plaque expressing appreciation for service years is usually given, but is that the only gift that you would want?

WALKED AGAIN

I have not walked since Saturday.  Today, Wednesday, was the day to get back on schedule.
I just walked a MILE in 23.5 minutes.  Yes, I am very pleased.  I think I could have done more if I had not gotten so hot.  Even with the A/C on and a fan blowing on me, I got very, very hot.

If I slowed the pace, I wonder how far I could walk before I felt the need to stop.
