DRAGGING

Have you ever been to a legal drag race??  I went to my first this past Saturday night and really enjoyed it.

DD#2 and her husband go often.  In fact, he has a car that he enters and sometimes drives.  However, his son drove this time.  The announcer would make remarks each time this car came to the line.  Good remarks, telling what a good race car this was.  I don’t remember what they are called (the bars put on the back to prevent the car flipping over when the front end rises on take-off)but the announcer said the ones on this car were not just for show they were needed.  The driver had not raced in about 10 years and was not at his best so the car did not win, but still gave a good show.

Even tho the race was nice and enjoyable, the best part was spening time with DD#2 and her husband and seeing 2 of the grandsons that I rarely see and also saw the grandsons by marriage.  I also talked with a couple that I had not seen in several years.

SELF PORTRAIT SUNDAY 7-26-09

I am so sleepy, I am surprised that my pupils are not almost as big as my irises.


Eyeliner tattoo.  Still in the process of healing.  Right eye is healing faster than the left.

FOUND PEAS

DH and I had an active day last Saturday.  About an hour after we get up we go across the river to the big city and do miscellaneous shopping.  After we get the items put away, I start one of my daily activities, the computer surfing.

About 1 hour later DH asks if I am ready to go.  “Go where?”   He replies that I had said I wanted to go to Myrtle Beach.  So away we go.  We pass 2 big Farmer’s Markets  on the way, if they are open we usually stop just to see what they have.  Holden’s didn’t have anything we were willing to pay their price.  Indigo had peas by the bushel, a little high but not so high that I turned away.  We left with a bushel of peas and a hugh watermelon.

I shell peas for an hour or so Saturday night and then finish shelling them on Sunday.  DH helped shell on Sunday.  I refrigerate them in water and finally on Wednesday I get them prepared and in the freezer.  I shared with my MIL but still put 9 pints in the freezer.



I wish I could get at least 4 more bushels like these, I would share with my MIL. They were sold as Dixie Lee, I do not think they are but do not know what they are.  They are a little large for Dixie Lee and are just as tasty if not better.

ONLINE DEGREE

What would be important to you if you were wanting a MBA online degree?  I would want a prestigious university, prestigious in that the facts they present are true and have numerous students that can attest to their desire to help me as an individual.  The University of Scranton meets my criteria.

The following facts are very impressive to me:  1)In some instances or circumstances the GMAT is waived.  2)The Princeton Review ranks The University of Scranton in the top 15 universitites.  3)The University of Scranton’s AACSB accredited program is the only top ranked program that is 100% online.  4)Their program is 2 years compared to most other schools offering only a 3 year program.  5)Do a search on Kalanidhi_Maran to see a very interesting fact about him and his education.

Yes, if I were pursuing an online MBA degree, The University of Scranton would be my choice.

BACKUP

I really need an online backup for my system but have no idea even how to begin.  About the only thing I can do on the computer is search, email, and blog.  I do a little on Facebook, but not like some.

I took a short term computer course a few years back and that was just what it turned out to be-did not teach much.  I have learned more from my daughter than from that course which was 2 nights a week for six weeks.  That was a waste of my time and money.

DOMESTICATED-PART 2

Well here goes another story of the work I enjoy.  I have canned tomatoes 2 more times.  I canned 4 pints on Wednesday the 15th.



and 4 pints and 2/3 on Monday the 20th.



10 pints of our homegrown tomatoes canned!!

Our tomatoes have heat spots on some of them.  This is a very hard white spot that I cut away when I am canning them.  They usually start at the stem end of the tomato and can go as far as half way the tomato, rarely even further.  I am wanting to buy some that are not damaged and can them.

I have peas to wash and prepare for freezing.

TATTOO

Anyone care for a tattoo???  I am 62 and got my first tattoo ever today.  I will be glad when the redness goes away so that I can see how it is really going to look.  Sure hope that I like it.

DOMESTICATED-Part 1

Well, as promised, here is a bit of my being domesticated.

It was Thursday, not Friday that I looked in an about in three counties trying to find vegetables, with no success.  I really do not remember what I did Friday except prepare lunch for the 3 grandchildren that had spent Thursday night with us and then prepare supper.

We had spaghetti for supper.  I always make my own sauce NEVER adding a jar of sauce such as Ragu or Prego or any others.  Yes, I know I am rambling, so I will shorten the story.

We had quite a bit of sauce left and having canning on the brain, I decide to can the leftovers.  I reheat it until the bubbling stage of boiling, pour it into hot jars and I have canned spaghetti sauce that is far better than anything you can buy in the store.  Leftovers yield 1 quart and 1/2 pint.



I have been known to make a large batch and freeze the leftovers.  Because of the liquid, I can never get all of the air out or even most of it , so it doesn’t keep very well.  Careful, having a brainstorm.  Make sauce and can it—so I do.



I prepared 2 cookings of sauce and had a yield of 10 pints total.   I put 1/4 teaspoon of citric acid in the pints and then placed them in the boiling water bath for about 35 minutes.

Neither of the 3 cookings taste the same, because I use a dash of this-add extra of that-and so on until I like the taste.  I guess I really need to measure the seasonings in the future and when I get a taste ‘to die for’ use that recipe consistently.

More Domesticated in a day or two.

SELF PORTRAIT SUNDAY 7-18-09

I am not trying to give anyone a misrepresentation of how I look or feel.  I know that I may break a mirror and I also know that I am tired.  Been going since about 8:45 this morning, I may have stopped an hour all day.

DOMESTICATED

NOT!  I am not very domesticated but every once in a while I try to pretend that I am.  Since Friday I have either been on the hunt for vegetables or busy preparing them to freeze or even canning spaghetti sauce.  I will write a full post about my adventures when I have more time.
