NUMBERS

I am a little crazy when it comes to numbers. I guess I got this from my mom. She always liked to have even numbers or numbers easy to remember.

The last corn that I froze yielded 35 pints. I have a total of 97 pints in the freezer done this year, 95 pints of white super sweet and 2 pints of peaches and cream.

Wednesday DD and I went to Myrtle Beach to meet a blogging friend and her son, on the way there, I stopped at the farmers market and got enough corn to freeze 3 more pints so that I would have an even 100 pints for this year.

GLUTTEN for PUNISHMENT

My search for bean and peas within a reasonable distance has been unsuccessful. DH and I decide if I cannot get other veggies we want, more corn will do. We both have read that corn is very good for the body.

I went to Holden Bros. yesterday and got 2 more bushels of corn. I gave my MIL 30 ears and I am working on 92. I have 20 ears left to cut off the ends and then the shucking and silking begins. I will let you know the yield.

Holden Bros. had fresh unshelled beens for $1.99/pound. I did weaken and buy 2 pounds. He was not selling any by the bushel unless you had your name on the list and then they were $32. a bushel.

Last night I fried corn (my mom had frozen in ’94) to go with the smoked pork chops, fresh peas (could only find 3 pounds in the shell) and rice. We also had blueberry cobbler made with Jiffy yellow cake mix.

No housework is being done on this vacation. As we eat the corn, we will think how good it is, not that the house did not get any de-cluttering done.

I really need to get up and get very, very busy.

BLOG your BLESSING 7-13-08

At church today when someone prayed, he was thanking God for our freedom to assemble and worship Him.  Yes, that is a freedom that we all probably take for granted or rarely think that we will ever be threatened in any way when we gather to worship God, or even sit in our own home and study His word.

As this man was praying, my mind began to wander away from his comment to these thoughts.  How much longer will we be able to enjoy this freedom?  Will we have this freedom another year, another decade or possibly two?  Yes, I am a pessimist, but a lot has happened in the past 2 decades, here and abroad to make me think—”Will we always have our freedom?”.

My blessing today is the freedom to go where I chose, when I chose, with whom I chose, and do what I chose.  This blessing is granted to me by those who have fought to keep our great nation free and by my husband who does not control me.  Last but by no means least, a living God that chose America for my land of birth.

To all I say ‘Thank You’!.

OLDER THAN

DH is 6 months older than I am, but because my hair is so much grayer than his, people assume that I am far older than he.  (Some have the audacity to ask if I am his mom.)  Tonight we went out to Golden Corral for supper and the young thing checking us made that mistake again and gave me a senior price and he the regular price.

I am going to call my hairdresser and ask the charge for a color back.  Enough is Enough!

TOTAL CORN

This year DH and I have put in the freezer for future eating 62 pints of corn.  The cost per pint not including gas is $1.26.  Is it cheaper at the grocery store?  I do not know, but what I do know is what we froze will taste much better than what we could get at the grocery store.

I am on a HUNT now for butter beans and peas!!

ENTERTAINING

If I were a person who entertained often and served wine when I did, then I should be looking at wine refrigerators and decide which one would best serve my need. These little refrigerators are very efficient and are silent as they keep the wine at the perfect temperature. I could also probably use one to keep the green tea at just the right temperature for me or for my occasional guests should they choose green tea instead of black tea or coffee.

PLEASINGLY PLUMP or FAT

I have been told that I am not fat. I know different! The scales do not lie when showing the amount of pounds for my height. I know that I should curb my appetite, but even what I cook is usually good. My weakness is second servings and sweets. If I were on a regular exercise program, that would help me lose a few pounds. I need to make up my mind to cut back on the amount and what I eat and walk, walk, walk. Phentermine would be a great help if it were not for medical problems that I have.

WHEELS or WHEELS

Cars have all types of wheels. Wheels that are just wheels, wheels that are fancy, wheels that are sporty and wheels that only look good on a Corvette. Now this is a wheel that is a wheel!

Wheels are not only to make your car look better but with the correct wheel and high performance tire your corvette will handle better and have improved traction. A nice set of wheels will compliment your car and put it a wheel above other cars.

If I had the opportunity to own a corvette, I would want this type of wheel

Of course, with all the styles available, finding your choice would not be hard to do and the prices are very reasonable for what you will be getting.

GOOD EATING

I was off from K-Mart yesterday but that did not keep me from working! I left my house at 20 til 8 yesterday morning to go to the farmer’s market for more corn. (I did a mileage check–35.7 one way and all but 5 miles is on US17. This is open road driving–good gas mileage.)

I got two bushels of corn and did one of them by myself after I got home. After cutting the ends off with a hatchet device, it took me 2 1/2 hours to shuck and silk 62 ears of corn. After getting it all blanched and cooled, I spent another 1 1/2 hours cutting it off the cob. Even tho I was very, very tired, it indeed was a day well spent. We ate a pint of the corn for supper and 23 pints went in the freezer. This bushel was nice but not as nice as the first I did, but still well worth the time and effort.

I took my MIL 30 ears from the second bushel last night. Today after I came in from work, I cut off the ends and shucked and silked 32 ears and tomorrow when I get home from work I will blanch, cool, cut off the cob and pack for freezing.

I do not plan to freeze any more corn this year, but I may. I really want to get some butter beans and peas. I am having a hard time finding them.
