BUSY and PRODUCTIVE

My day started this morning when the clock alarmed at 6:30. No, I did not get up then, but I did get up at 7, began my activities for the day and it is now 9:15, so I think I will call it a day.

I left my house about 7:40 on my way to Burgaw for blueberries. A lady at work asked me to get her 10 pounds, I got 30 pounds and while there I called my SIL and she wanted 10 pounds. On the way back home, I stopped by K-Mart delivered the berries, got a huge plastic tub, our prescriptions, and 3 bags of ice. I got home about 10:00 and the fun began.

I called my SIL told her I would be in the kitchen and the door was unlocked. She came over shortly and helped me finish shucking and silking the corn—all 64 ears of it. I blanched it and was planning to use a gizmo that really makes cutting it off the cob easy; I only did 2 ears with it because I was afraid that it would be cream style and DH wanted whole kernel, so I did the rest with a knife. That bushel of corn yielded 28 pints!! We ate one for supper and the rest is in the freezer.

I also have washed one box of the blueberries and it is in the fridge. I will get it bagged tomorrow and hopefully I can wash and bag the other 2 boxes and that is all the blueberries that I plan to freeze this year, I think.

I only stopped about an hour today until I sat down to type this post. I already have my bath and have taken my night time meds — so good night, folks.

BLOG your BLESSING 6-29-08

Successful veggie shopping day. After lunch DH and I went about 36 miles towards Myrtle Beach to Holden Bros. Produce Farm, there we found nice corn and bought a bushel. This farm has an irrigation system so the corn has not suffered because of the dry weather we have had so far. We also got just a few Kentucky Wonder string beans, just enough for one meal. I am really wanting some butter beans and peas. Maybe when I go on vacation in a couple of weeks I can find some that have not been shelled. Almost forgot, also got the watermelon for the 4th of July.

I assumed that we would come straight back home after our find, but DH asked if I wanted to go to another market close by and of course I did. That market was closed.

To my surprise, DH went on to Myrtle Beach. We shopped a little, then had supper and came on home.

I know that you are wondering what is the blessing in all of this rambling. Corn, shopping, good food, safety on the road, and last but not least, after we got home DH cut the ends off the corn.

A RAM IS A RAM

One would think that “a ram is a ram is a ram”, but not necessarily. What type of ram are we speaking? Ram the sheep, or ram the dodge truck, or ram into something as hitting it hard. Another type of ram is Random Access Memory. This type ram is computer memory which makes one’s data directly accessible. The more ram your computer has the more information can be stored. When purchasing a computer, always check for lots of ram, this will prevent installing more memory in a few months.

washed two loads of clothes. One of which I hung on the line to dry and the other I partially dried in the dryer and hung inside. I just did not want to hang my white work shirts outside. I also did a little rearranging of my clothes. There is so much that I need to do with my clothes. Priority should be getting those that are too small for me separated from those that I can wear and donating them to goodwill.

I pretended to vacuum the living room and dining room. I need to do some deep cleaning in these two rooms. Maybe one day it will get done. I have high hopes for what I will do after I retire.

We had left over cubed steak and gravy, canned green beans and rice. Tonight was the first time I used a microwave rice cooker. I like it! and highly recommend it.

I mentioned a few posts back that I had frozen some green beans and would let you know the end result. DH and I both thought they tasted fine. They had only been frozen a short time, maybe longer would make a difference. We’ll see when I get some more.

Also, today DH went after DaBaby and she spent the afternoon with us. She ate a big supper. She fed herself really well. After I finished I asked if she wanted me to feed her, so I did. Yea, Grandi is like that—ask those that are a few years older.

I also planted a flower. I hope it grows and does well.

WORKED HARD

FINISHED FOR NOW

I just finished with the berries from last week. With all the lightening, working and having to go out of town (about 300 miles round trip) for a funeral, I was definitely slower than intended. I also got 12 packs from this 10 pounds if I count those I cooked.

I am off Monday. If my plans do not change, I plan to get another 20 pounds if not 30. This will complete what I plan for berry freezing this year.

We really need to defrost the freezer before I put much more in it. A little re-organizing will give me lots more room. I also need to get the old stuff where I can use it before the new.

It is only about 8, but my bed is calling for me and I think I shall soon answer. 6:15 will come before I am ready to get up and start another day.

MISTAKE/BLESSING

MISTAKE and WHY—-the mistake was that I asked my daughter to ride across the river with me to the city simply because I did not want to go by myself and it would give us time together. I needed to get a connector cord for our new stove. Why was this a mistake? If we ever go to town together and enter a clothing store we are in big trouble. We both love a sale and it is even better when I can use my discount card. Neither of us has any self discipline and especially if we are together. (Remember our shopping trip when we went to her PaPa’s funeral.) Yesterday was not quite as expensive, but we both bought clothes at Sears. We enter the store thru the door that is at ladies wear and we both say “look at that”. I have to go potty (tmi), when I get back she has found the petite department and already picked out 2 or 3 outfits for herself but is not satisfied with that, she proceeds to help me find clothes. More than $100. later, we are finished except for each of us a pair of shoes, but this includes 3 tank tops each for the 2 older girls. These are really nice tank tops—nice neck lines that show NO cleavage–Grandi likes this.

BLESSING—Daughter and I always have a good time together. Even when I do things to upset her and her me, within minutes it is discussed and gone, the pieces put together and life goes on. We never hold a grudge and are always willing to forgive and usually forget. (I wish that other family members were more like this.) No matter what situation puts us together one on one, we always enjoy our time. Even in Mother’s last days not knowing if that would be our last breathing visit with her, we enjoyed our time together as we went the distance to see her. I cherish the times we have together and consider them to be some of my greatest blessings in life.

The situation that puts us together does not matter, we always find a reason to laugh and have fun. Yes, we can and are serious when we need to be. We each look forward to our next escapade together.

I feel a sadness for those Mothers and Daughters that always have just the “mother daughter relationship”, always serious, argue when together and can’t seem to relax and be friends. I do not think I am my daughter’s best friend but I am high on the list of her treasured friends as she is very high on my list.

WINE

Three of my relatives really like wine. I would not say they were “wine-o’s”, but I do not think they would refuse a glass of wine if the time and occasion were appropriate. The females are opposite in their taste-one likes a sweet wine the other does not and I do not know what the male prefers. I, however, have not found a wine that I like. If I were a drinker of wine, I might consider joining the California wine club. Maybe I should recommend that they join. One of the relatives has joined the Duplin County wine club.

NOTHING ACCOMPLISHED

I have accomplished almost nothing today. Washing and hanging one load of clothes does not add up to much done. I have gotten my weekly calendar up-to-date with my pay stubs posted in it. I have also done a little checkbook math. I really need to get busy!!!! and I will——-after I have boiled peanuts for lunch.

Would have done more but we have had quite a bit of lightening and thunder and a little rain.
