Who am I kidding???!!! It is not easy to increase one’s household by 7 people at one time. I new it would be different and I have tried to let the children enjoy themselves, yet not letting them do just as they wish. We have worked on table manners, (mainly keeping our arms off of the table) and putting the chairs back under the table after a meal. At home they each take their plate to the sink when finished eating, I cannot stand to go to a sink full of dishes, so here for the most part Diva and I have cleared the table.
Diva has been the biggest help to me. I told her that I wanted her to have a vacation too and she replied that she had not planned on vacationing and that she wanted to help me. I told DH today that if something should happen to their mom, she could practically take over and do what needed to be done. Folks, this is at only 12 years old.
Country had planned to take vacation so she does not volunteer to help. However, if I ask her to do something, she does not hesitate.
The boys are boys and that is ok. Stuntman is kinda to himself, Spiderman is into solving crimes and Batman just looks at me and grins.
Drama is just that–Drama. I picked her up tonight and lovingly patted her butt, barely touching her and she started crying like she was dying and it was because she thought I was really spanking her. I have never spanked her! After I found out why she was crying, I explained that the pats meant the same as me rubbing her back. She stopped crying as if turning off a switch and with a big smile, she said, ‘you were not spanking me?’
DaBaby is just that. A spoiled baby. If she wants something, she pretends to cry and all of the children will give her whatever they have that she wants. I have tried to get them to not do that with little success.
I was really hoping to feel good and be in a good frame of mind when they came to stay but it did not turn out that way. I wanted this to be such a fun week that it would always be a happy memory and they would never forget it. Hopefully they will have enough fun that they will want to come again.
Til Next Time
