Last night when I visited Mother she was asleep and the nurse asked me if I would try to get her to take her medicine. “She is asleep and if I wake her up she may not take it for me and she really needs her blood pressure medicine and if she doesn’t take her medicine they may want to insert a feeding tube, so will you see if you can get her to take it.” Well, duh, do say nurse, who do you think has to give permission for the feeding tube? As many times as I have heard my mom say DO NOT, do you think it is gonna be me to say “yeah go right ahead do that very thing that she so not wanted”. Well, anyway, Nurse “ME” woke Mother and she did take her BP med and drank almost all of the ensure, and ate about 3 bites of a lemon pie. Was she really awake, I do not think so, just roused enough to do what one asked her to do.
Today when I visited in the late afternoon, around 4:30, she was asleep. I asked her aid to please get her up for supper and as soon as possible afterwards to give her a shower and get her back in bed and she said she would. This aid worked in the same facility I did years ago.
I need to call tomorrow and talk with the DON as Mother’s clothes are looking as if they do not even use a bib to protect her clothes from the food that they spill while trying to feed her.
