OUR DINER

The cook at Our Diner has had it fairly easy this week-end. As stated earlier, her DH took her out Friday night after she got off work. Yesterday after an afternoon of shopping, she really did not want to go back across the river and neither did DH so they had sausage, rice and eggs for supper. Today after she gets home from visiting her mother, they neither want to go out. As my dear deceased brother used to say, DH cooked because he bought supper as he sent the cook to the nearby Bojangles to get chicken dinners and bring them home.

Oh well, tomorrow is another day and the cook better be ready to do her job because the DH will be tired after working 10 hours in the hot sun.

MOTHER 7-8-07

DD went with me to visit Mother today.  This visit was like many that I have had in the past.  She was sleeping or dozing, waked enough to try to tell us something.  Finally we figured she was saying she hurt.  Reported this to the nurse that said she would check on her.  Mother did drink a little water and a little coke.  Hardly enough to say that she had any.  The CNA that fed her said she really had to coach her to get her to eat breakfast and she finally ate about 75% but only ate about 35% of her lunch.  I have on occasion taken Mother food but now she seems not to want anything I take.  She would doze and wake the entire time we were there.

Maybe tomorrow’s visit will be better—one can only hope.

TEEN HELP

Do you know a teen that may be headed down or going down the wrong path? There is always teen help available if one has the knowledge and resources to find this help. Often times, the teen has been using drugs for months or even years before the parents are aware that their daughter or son has a problem or even worse is addicted. Even when parents are aware of drug use, they either deny or underestimate the stage of involvement. A sure way for one to destroy oneself and the family is to become involved in the use drugs.

I have never been addicted to anything but nicotine. In fact, that is the only street additive drug that I ever tried. That addiction had control of me, I planned all activities around when I would be able to smoke again. That is a sad way to live, and I assume that all addictions are similar. I am fortunate that I stopped with nicotine, (I heard recently that nicotine is more addictive than heroin) as this is usually the beginning for hard drugs. Alcohol can also be additive.

Many warnings are given that the teen may be using drugs or already addicted. Some of these warnings are: 1)neglected appearance, 2)grades dropping, 3)curfew violation, 4)red or glassy eyes, 5)unexplained weight loss, 6)disrespect toward parents. There are many more warnings and can be found at helpforteens.com. This site has a wealth of information on line and information that can be ordered. This site is a must read for anyone with children, especially school age. Even if you do not have children, the information here is worthy of reading and some of it alarming.

NEXT WEEK

My work schedule next week is certainly not the best I have ever had, but at least I am on the schedule. Monday, I work 11-3 in the pharmacy, Tuesday and Wednesday 10-7 in lay-a-way, off Thursday and Friday and Saturday again 10-7 in lay-a-way.

Doesn’t give me much time for visiting Mother. I plan to go today when my DD calls.

Thursday if the weather is nice, I plan to take the granddaughters to my friends house at the lake so they can enjoy the water and we will stop by to see Mother.

Friday I will spend with DH and on the computer, maybe I can make lots of money.

PARENTING TEENS

Parenting teens is such an awesome responsibility and the most important and hardest job a parent will ever have. I am glad those years are behind me, but am always willing to listen to DD as she laments over what to do next, or if she is making the right decision. No, the 2 teens she has now are not problem children, and hopefully the others will not be either. A good parent always wonders and sometimes second guess the decisions they have made. Teen Help is a source of information that can be a great tool in handling situations that may arise with your teen, from education to health issues or problems.

What would you do if you realized your teen was using drugs? Would you yell and scream, pretend it was not happening, or let your teen know that your love was not wavering and you would seek help together. What if your teen came home and told you their girlfriend was pregnant or that she was pregnant? Would you act like it was the end of the world, they were the only ones to ever have this situation happen to them or would you be their friend when they really needed one and offer to help them cope with this change in their life. BLOG your BLESSING 7-8-07

I have had many blessings this week, as I do every week, but this is the one I will share with you. DD over here, called yesterday about noon and asked if I wanted to go shopping with her. I told her that I really did not feel like it but hated to tell her no and I would call her back in a few minutes. It seems that we rarely get to spend fun time together (just the 2 of us), so I called her back and said I would be over in a few. Her husband was taking the boys to a race last night so we had to be home about 4:30, not a lot of time for women to shop. We hit Penny’s for bras, what an experience! Enough said. We then go to their dress department–nothing appealing. As I am getting very tired we drive around to Sears. Here she finds 2 very pretty dresses, several pairs of what we term as decent shorts and 2 skorts and 3 knit shirts.

• #1 blessing- time spent with DD
• #2 blessing- bras were buy 1 get the second half off
• #3 blessing- saved an additional 15% on entire purchase
• #4 blessing- could use my discount card at Sears, even on sale items-saved about $35. there.
