For the past 6 years, DH has grilled hamburgers and hotdogs for the grandchildren after they have had a couple of hours of playing in the small pools. The 6 years includes this year. He had said he wasn’t going to do it this year, but he did. Yesterday, I told him what one of the grandchildren had said about coming over and that all of them would be disappointed if they didn’t come and he cook and do his usual fire work display, the next part of the conversation was what and how much to get.
The pools are indeed small, one is just a 48″ kiddie pool and then we have 2 that are about 90 to 100 inches in circumference. Small, but even the 13 year old (Country) enjoyed being in them. At first the 3 year old (Drama) was in the kiddie pool then she ventured on over to the larger pools and enjoyed them along with her older siblings.
DH only did hotdogs this year ( I said that was enough) and they were really good. We had chips, pickles, chocolate chip cookies and blueberry cobbler. The grandchildren drank all the fruit punch and Sprite they wanted. Yes, we only go crazy once a year and let them drink all the cola type products they want. I was good tho, and got them drinks that were not full of caffeine.
As it was almost dark DH told the children to gather on the deck and he got the fireworks and arranged the first group as excitement mounted among them. When the first one started popping and snapping, Drama came running to me,crying, scared half to death. Even my holding her was not good enough, so we came inside, and I missed the fireworks and the fun the others had. That is ok because she needed me and I was there for her. After all the fireworks were done, Dh helped each of the grandchildren with sparklers, even Drama.
I had fun and am sure they did. Creating memories for a lifetime.
