MOTHER-PART 23
Mother was sleeping yesterday when I went to see her. Now when she sleeps it does no good to try to wake her. She will open her eyes, look at you, and go right back to sleep. So, I just signed her guest book, adjusted her covers, watched her sleep a few minutes and left.
The facility called me later in the afternoon to tell me the doctor had discontinued her diuretic and potassium. I do not understand the potassium because the high blood pressure medicine depletes her potassium. But maybe her kidneys are not flushing the excess potassium from her body so she has too much. The nurse did not have a copy of the last lab report. After a week without these meds, then another lab will be done to check her kidney function and her dehydration and potassium level. Also a CBC will be done.
My brother is calling the doctor’s office today, maybe he can get some answers as to what is going on with Mother. I surely hope so. I wonder if the doctor is trying to determine if her body is beginning to shut down.
I need to get up from here, get dressed and go check on her. I should be able to feed her lunch, if I don’t drag my feet.
Til Next Time
