CHRISTMAS in JANUARY
That’s right. Today my extended family will going to DD#1 house for our annual Christmas get together.
Why in January, you ask. It is really quite simple as to how we decided to have Christmas now. My brother and I and 2 nephews were discussing the best time to have our family together so as not to interfere with other family gatherings (yes , we are selfish like that-lol). It was decided that we would get together the second Saturday in January from now on. The second Saturday in case the first Saturday happened to be a part of the New Year’s celebration. This plan was announced to everyone along with ‘Mark your calendars so you won’t forget’. We knew calendars would not be out, but have a little CS (common sense) and note it on December.
Guess what folks!!! Nephew in SC has made other plans, he was verbally reminded person to person the first part of November. The niece has not been heard from by anyone that I know of since April. (She lives about 50 miles from me) She has been sent several emails concerning the gift ideas and menu plans. Widow of my brother and her husband have made other plans. So it will be just my brother, his wife, my daughter and her family, one nephew, (really the widow’s son who has always seemed to be a part of the family, more on him later) his family and myself. DH is working.
This is really disappointing to me that family ties do not seem to be important to the others. Or maybe they are telling us that the ties to this family are not important.
They will miss a good meal not to mention the good company. Menu items are as follows: turkey breast, picnic ham, rice cooked in the ham broth, cornbread dressing, potato salad, peas, greenbean casserole, sweet potato casserole, coconut cake and pineapple cake. I think that is all.
Thanks for listening (reading) me whine, but it appears that the family is beginning to drift apart. What will it be after Mother passes away????
Til Next Time
